Connecting Innovators with the Supply Chain: Tesco Agri T-Jam and World Agri-Tech Pitch Day 2019 Call for Start-Ups

Following a successful launch in 2018, the Tesco Agri T-Jam at the World Agri-Tech Pitch Day returns this year to offer more exciting seed and early-stage agri-tech innovators from around the world the opportunity to work with the UK’s leading food retailer and its supply chain partners.

Entries are invited for now until August 7 from start-ups with innovative breakthrough technologies and solutions to improve supply chain efficiency and sustainability.

At least one start-up will be selected for fast-track introductions and mentoring by the Tesco agriculture team and its supplier network. 2018 winner, Impact Vision, whose machine-learning hyperspectral imaging technology excited last year’s panel with its many areas of potential application in the supply chain, has been working closely with the retailer and its suppliers. Abi Ramanan, CEO and founder commented: “Winning the first Tesco Agri T-Jam presented a fantastic opportunity for ImpactVision to get fast-tracked introductions to a number of Tesco’s suppliers, enabling us to determine the best opportunities for piloting with a view to commercialising our technology.”

Held the day before the World Agri-Tech Innovation Summit (October 15-16), the Pitch Day and Tesco Agri T-Jam will this year take place in Tesco’s Heart Building, at its Welwyn Garden City headquarters. Tesco colleagues and suppliers will be present to network with the featured start-ups, creating even more opportunities to connect them with the supply chain, and share invaluable feedback.

Emmanuelle Lerges, Food Technical and Agriculture Director at Tesco said:

“Technology is advancing at a significant rate, and many of the suppliers, farmers and producers we partner with are leading the way with innovation in agriculture. To help us discover the next breakthrough agricultural start-ups and innovative new technology, we’re excited to be partnering with the World Agri Tech Summit for the second year. The winning company will have the chance to partner with one of our suppliers to help provide, affordable, healthy, sustainable food for our customers.”

Priority areas for innovation defined by Tesco’s agriculture supplier network include:

  • Predictive Farming
  • Crop Specific Solutions, Shelf Life & Storage
  • Improving Soil Health & Resilience
  • Water Quality Analysis & Irrigation
  • Robotics, Automation & Sensor Technology
  • Protecting & Supporting Biodiversity
  • Livestock: Animal Health & Welfare
  • Supply Chain Efficiency & Waste Reduction
  • Indoor & Vertical Farming
  • Reducing Environmental Footprint & GHG Emissions

After an in-depth shortlisting process, ten finalists will be chosen to present their solutions at the Pitch Day and T-Jam to an audience of Tesco colleagues and supply chain partners, joined by invited guests including investors and agribusinesses from the World Agri-Tech Innovation Summit’s global network.

All finalists will attend the two-day summit as guests, and the winner will present on stage as part of the acclaimed Technology Showcase, offering powerful networking opportunities with the international summit audience of over 600 agribusiness decision-makers and investors.

Deadline for entries is August 7. Full details, entry form and criteria are online at https://worldagritechinnovation.com/tesco-agri-tech-…application-form/
